It was about time I updated my smart phone camera to an actual one. I haven’t taken nearly as many photos as I should have on my adventures, which I really hope will change this year with my new camera. I picked Canon M100 because it looks handy and easy to use which I thought would be perfect for a beginner like me. Also I might want to start to vlog when I go traveling again so the flip screen really called out to me!
Although a phone can be pretty handy to use as a camera whilst traveling I’ve always kept it in my bag because, let’s be honest, it can be difficult to zoom in quickly, the touch screen isn’t good in rain and the battery goes really quickly! I try to keep my phone fully charged at all times because it is my biggest safety net when traveling and often I stay at places where there is no electricity.
If I compare the two cameras you can see that the nature pictures do not differ that much except the M100 pictures do not have the same blue in the ski.

Be aware that these pictures are taken right before sunset in a dark Icelandic winter. I had to race the sun to be able to get any pictures before dark… again.
When we look at the selfies you can see that I’m in a much better focus on the M100 as well as it gives my hair this beautiful deep and dark red color. It also shows much more details, it’s not as flat as the one from my phone.
The camera has a very good auto focus which makes me very excited since I couldn’t get a proper focus on the previous phones I’ve used. Not very good examples, but you can see it can focus on objects very near.
I’m not a camera expert and I’ll probably need to work on my photography skills and learn how to use the Canon M100 properly to be able to make some progress. I think it’s doable since there isn’t a whole lot of buttons on it which usually scare me a little when I hold a camera, but no worries the settings are all in the touch-flip screen. How convenient!
Anyways, I am hoping this camera will grow on me and I’ll be able to share some amazing pictures from my future travels. I promise to blog about this lovely thing as soon as I have had some more experience using it.
Until next time 👋🏼
